Tracked Loading Shovel

This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a Tracked Loading Shovel as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.

The course duration is 5 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.

The course contents are:

  • Introduction to the machine
  • Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
  • Use of the 4 in 1 bucket
  • Loading vehicles
  • Preparing the machine for site and load travel
  • Travelling the excavator over different types of terrain including rough, undulating ground and up and down substantial inclines
  • Soil and material characteristics
  • Pre-use, start running checks and close down procedure
  • Operating the machine safely under various site conditions
  • The basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges

Course outcomes:

On completion of the course your employee will be able to:

  • Carry out a pre-shift inspection
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine services
  • Create a stockpile with excavated material
  • Excavate from a bank/stockpile
  • Remove and re-attach different types of buckets
  • Reduce the level of excavations to line and level
  • Identify and comply with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
