This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a Telescopic Handler as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.
The course duration is 5 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.
The course contents are:
- Basic construction of a Telescopic Handler
- Names of components, purpose and use of controls
- Pre-start, running checks and close down procedure
- Preparing for site and road travel
- Travelling over different types of terrain including rough, undulating ground and substantial inclines using different wheel drive and steer combinations
- Manoeuvring within confined spaces in a forward and reverse direction
- Use of coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
- Use of emergency controls
Course outcomes:
On completion of the course your employee will be able to:
- Carry out a pre-shift inspection
- Decide whether a particular load is safe to lift
- Understand the causes of instability of the truck and loads
- Handle loaded and unloaded pallets and difficult shaped loads
- Operate a Telescopic Handler across a range of activities to a recognised standard
- Identify hazards, understand the purpose of risk assessments
- Carry out simple manoeuvres, forward and reverse movements, turns and emergency stops
