This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a Signaller/Slinger as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.
The course duration is 3 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.
The course contents are:
- The basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
- Identification marks, test certification and thorough examination documentation
- Identifying load weight and centres of gravity
- Characteristics of lifting accessories including uniform load method
- Selection of lifting accessories including uniform load method
- Duties and responsibilities of a slinger/signaller as required by statute
- The effects of load movement on the stability of a crane
- Potential hazards associated with crane operation
- Effects of varying the angles of multi-leg slings and how to calculate safe working loads
Course outcomes
On completion of the course your employee will be able to:
- Follow method statements and other instructions including preparation of work
- Sling various loads including balanced, unbalanced and loose
- Deliver signals of the appliance operator using different forms of communication
- Select, attach and detach appropriate lifting tackle
- Lift and accurately place various loads including test lifts to and from confined and blind areas
- How to maintain tackle and store it correctly
- Keep within safe working parameters
- Establish the weight and dimensions of loads and communicate this information to the crane operator
- Identify and comply with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
