Rough Terrain Forklift

This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to drive a Masted Rough Terrain Forklift as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.

The course duration is 5 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.

The course contents are:

  • Carrying out pre-use and running checks
  • Manoeuvring within confined spaces
  • Configuring the machine for site and road travel
  • Handling loaded / unloaded pallets and difficult shaped loads
  • Travelling over different types of terrain including rough, undulating ground and substantial inclines, both with and without loads
  • Keeping within safe working parameters
  • Understanding the causes of instability of the truck and loads
  • Understanding responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other current relevant legislation.
  • Use of emergency controls

Course outcomes

On completion of the course your employee will be able to:

  • Operate the machine effectively in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and accepted good practice
  • Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Place the machine in and out of service condition
  • Follow the correct loading and unloading procedure
  • Set up the forklift in order to lift various loads
  • Ensure load integrity and security
  • Lift various loads within the capabilities of the machine
  • Take the necessary precautions for overhead services and other hazards
  • Place and retrieve loads accurately
