This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a Reach Truck as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.
The course duration is 4 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.
The course contents are:
- Introduction to machine
- Essential features of lift trucks and their maintenance
- The basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
- Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations
- Loading and unloading vehicles and static racking
- Causes of instability of the truck and loads
- Re-fuelling systems
- Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
- Emergency controls
- Operators safety code
- Positioning, turning and straightening
- Rear end swing
- Load centres, rating and derating
Course outcomes
On completion of the course your employee will be able to:
- Carry out pre-shift inspections
- Handle loaded / unloaded pallets and difficult shaped loads
- How to assess loads and move them safely
- How to avoid the potential dangers of Reach Truck operation
- Manoeuvre the truck in various conditions
- Manoeuvre the truck on substantial inclines and on various types of terrain
- Know relevant legal requirements
- Identify and comply with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
