Loader/Compressor

This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a Loader Compressor as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.

The course duration is 3 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.

The course contents are:

  • The basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Setting the vehicle for site and road travel
  • Travelling over different types of material including rough, undulated ground
  • Travelling in both a loaded and unloaded state
  • Manoeuvring the vehicle in confined areas in both forward and reverse directions
  • Precautions to be taken for overhead services and other hazards
  • Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
  • Loading and levelling techniques
  • Loading vehicles from a stockpile
  • Starting and stopping procedures for the compressor, air hoses and tools
  • Breaking out materials with compressed air tools

Course outcomes

On completion of the course your employee will be able to:

  • Operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with accepted good practice under varying site conditions
  • Carry out a pre-shift inspection
  • Ensure machine integrity and security
  • Manoeuvre the machine in various states and conditions
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine services
  • Identify and comply with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
