Forklift Side Loader

This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a Forklift Side Loader as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements. It is suitable for both those with little or no experience and those wanting to formalise previously gained experience in order to gain a recognised qualification.

The course duration is 5 days and will take place at our CPCS approved test centre at Kiveton Park.

The course contents are:

  • The basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Manoeuvring the machinery within confined spaces in a forward and reverse direction and with and without loads
  • Load characteristics, integrity and security while picking, moving and landing, including landing loads in high places
  • Precautions and actions for overhead services and other hazards
  • Staying within safe working parameters
  • Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
  • Operator documentation, certificates, method statements, lift plans, duties charts etc

Course outcomes

On completion of the course your employee will be able to:

  • Identify and comply with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
  • Carry out pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure
  • Prepare the side loader for site and road travel
  • Set the side loader to lift and move different loads
  • Lift, move and place various loads accurately
  • Place the side loader in and out of service condition
  • Use of the operator's handbook, other information sources, Approved Codes of Practice and legislative documents
